Split Bridge Technology to Be Used for Connectivity and Docking in Innovative New OQO Ultra Personal Computer
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mobility Electronics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MOBE - News), a leading provider of innovative portable computing solutions for the mobile electronics device user, today announced a licensing agreement in which OQO, Inc. will license Mobility Electronics' Split Bridge® technology. Under the terms of the agreement, OQO will incorporate Split Bridge into their new ultra personal computer (UPC), a fully functional PC running Microsoft® Windows XP that fits in your pocket. The OQO UPC is the smallest high-performance Microsoft Windows XP personal computer, providing a unique combination of power, mobility and flexibility. Its ultra-dense design allows for a reduction in the size, complexity and power consumption relative to other personal computers.
"Split Bridge is an ideal technology for mobile computing devices, such as our OQO UPC, that need to work with high-performance peripherals," said Jory Bell, CEO of OQO. "This innovation from Mobility Electronics allows us to achieve a pocketable form factor while providing a powerful, high-speed link to the peripherals our users demand."
Split Bridge technology, designed, developed and sold under Mobility Electronics' MAGMAT brand, provides for standard, flexible docking and connectivity for any PCI-based computing system. By serializing the transmission of data over a thin cable, Mobility Electronics' patented Split Bridge technology allows the extension of a computer's main PCI bus to a remote location and provides bi-directional bandwidth of 1.25 Gbps. It is faster than other connectivity technologies currently available, such as Firewire or USB 2.0, and provides a low cost, high-bandwidth solution to support virtually any peripheral device. Mobility Electronics' Split Bridge technology won the PC Week Best New Technology Award at COMDEX Fall 1999 and received honorable mention at the March 2000 Mobile Insights conference for the Technology Achievement Innovation of the Year.
"We are excited to team with, and provide our Split Bridge technology to, OQO," noted Brian Stech, director of sales, marketing and services of Mobility Electronics' MAGMA branded products. "Their small, robust UPC is the perfect candidate for a simple, yet powerful connectivity solution such as Split Bridge."
Mobility Electronics' MAGMA branded products lead the PCI Bus expansion and remote connectivity industry. Sold out of San Diego, California, MAGMA provides innovative, high-tech expansion solutions to major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), resellers and end-users in various industries in more than 45 countries. MAGMA's solutions include CardBus-to-PCI Expansion Systems, PCI-to-PCI Expansion Systems, bus expansion link kits, Split Bridge technology, and serial adapters for embedded applications, servers, notebooks, and desktop computers.
